Getting Your Test Results

Key Information:

Your Personal Inbox: The easiest and fastest way to see your results is via the NHS App. You can view them as soon as they are filed by a clinician, saving you a phone call.

Clinician Review: Your results are only made available once they have been reviewed by a clinician.

Normal Results: If your results are normal, we will file them in your record. We do not routinely contact you to confirm a normal result.

Action Needed: If a result requires action, we will contact you. This might be via text, email, a prescription note, or an invitation to discuss the result.

Timelines: Please allow time for processing. Blood tests typically take around 7 working days, while scans and X-rays can take several weeks.

Hospital Tests: If a hospital specialist requested your test, the results go directly to them, not to us. You must contact the hospital team for these updates.

Confidentiality: For confidentiality and data protection reasons, we can only give results to the person they relate to, unless prior permission has been given or the patient is not able to understand the results themselves.

What Happens Next?

To check your results without waiting on the phone, please log in to the NHS App and navigate to the "Test Results" or "Investigations" section. Make sure your notifications are switched on so you don't miss any messages from us regarding follow-up actions.
